Bmx Bikes - Et and the Olympics

When I was a kid I all the time wanted a Bmx. I asked for one of these two wheeled wonders for every Christmas and every birthday. Unfortunately my house wasn't particularly well off and I had to conclude for a pre owned, black, re painted 5 gear racing bicycle.

Don't get me wrong, I loved it and it became a treasured ownership but I still couldn't help covet a shiny new Bmx! Having said that, after watching the movie E.T back in the early 80's I also believed that if I had a Bmx bike that I would be able to fly over my house on it! Years later, pilotage over houses in videogames was scant consolation!

Of course back in those days the whole Bmx thing was brand new and on Christmas mornings the streets seemed to be full of kids zooming up and down pavements, which were littered with crude home made and often perilous ramps, on their new bicycles, the large majority of which were the phenomena that was to come to be Bmx.

Strangely enough, despite the many stunts these bikes are capable of performing, none of them ever did fly over the house, and not even Mad Jimmy from whole 14 could do it and boy did he try!

More than 30 years later and although Bmx bikes still cannot fly they are still very cool and are more beloved than ever. For the first time in its history in 2008 they became a prosperous part of the Olympic Games in Beijing.

At the 2008 Olympics, racing was the only Bmx discipline to take part but with the ever growing popularity of the sport in general, it is only a matter of time before Freestyle is included too.

Flatland Bmx riding is yet someone else style of riding that is growing in popularity and as with other forms of Bmx discipline requires great skill to master.

Having such a mix of styles within the sport, maybe it is not surprising to gawk that there many, many different models of Bmx bike. Each discipline is so different that it commonly requires a bike specifically built for that purpose, with different weights and general designs to suit not only the discipline but also the private riders.

Famous riders get bikes designed not only with their name branding it, but often with their own specifications too.

With so much collection and selection out there, it shouldnt be a qoute getting hold of the Bmx bike you want, either for yourself or for a relative to unwrap on Christmas morning to once more go hurtling up the street, thrilled to bits with their new Bmx.
